Faces Behind LCAC with Benita Duran

November 27, 2018

Benita Duran is a place-maker and a community builder.  As a life-long Colorado resident, her professional career has found success in pulling people together to make good things happen. “Creating a space that will hold works of art and creative expression of Latinos — many we will never personally know but have moved us to a different place through their expression of familia, community and social justice.”, Duran says. “It is essential to Colorado’s history that a place like the LCAC exists — to own and tell the complete stories of those of us who are deep-rooted in Colorado and the southwestern US; it is also essential for the immigrant communities —local and international — to inform, educate and celebrate the connections that ARE without borders.   It is important to take claim of our piece of the rock - so to speak - with complete accuracy and intentionality. I believe this is possible through the LCAC.”
